From mythology to the present day, the history and properties of the olive tree.
The olive tree has very ancient origins, in Greek mythology it is said that the creation of this plant is to be attributed to the goddess Minerva. It has always been considered a sacred tree, so much so that it is still used in the sacred celebrations of our tradition, such as baptism and confirmation.
Its fruits have been present in human history since ancient times, even in everyday life. They were in fact used as a symbol of peace, strength and purification. The Homeric poems tell us that olive oil was used for cleaning and hygiene, while the Romans already classified it in different qualities, based on the ripeness of the olives used for making it.
Even today many mystical meanings are attributed to the olive tree, and also, even without realizing it, we use the metaphor of oil in many colloquial expressions such as "go smooth like oil" or "spread like wildfire".
The most common use we make of this plant today is that of pressing olives for the production of oil, essential in the Mediterranean diet both for its flavor and for the benefits it brings to our body. Yet not everyone knows that the bark and leaves also have very important properties.
In fact, the bark, which can be harvested in spring and autumn, is used in a preparation to combat phobic and obsessive neuroses, while associated with other plants it can be useful in combating triglycerides, cholesterol and arteriosclerosis.
The leaves, on the other hand, can be harvested throughout the year and are effective against hypertension. They are also useful for fighting excess fat in the blood, diabetes and fever.
The fruits are always the most used, they are processed and transformed into olives to be consumed or in olive oil. The therapeutic properties of extra virgin olive oil are many, it is good for the heart and fights cardiovascular diseases. It slows down the aging of cells and prevents hypertension problems and reduces blood glucose levels.
It should be remembered that they are not only used for nutrition, but also for the well-being and care of the skin and hair, thanks to their moisturizing and nourishing properties.
We use the fruits of our olive trees mainly for the production of our Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The olives are entirely cold pressed at the local oil mill and the result is truly unmissable! Take a look at our products!
